Issue 43 – PAUSE

KINDRED is taking a pause this season while we recalibrate personally, professionally, and creatively, but we look forward to returning in the spring. In the meantime, poet Sarah McArthur offers these words in our time of pause.

Last lines

by Sarah McArthur

Past Swift Creek

and Silver Star

the farmer turns up the earth in the evening.

Last night I could hear the river.

The open window, the sound of your breathing.

I watch for hours the deer and the heron.

How gentle we are still when we are reminded.

The way that healing

feels like not needing to be in pain all the time,

though it all still happened.
